GCSE Biology Quiz

What is Biology?

Biology is the study of living things and it is a vast field, as the world contains a wide variety of organisms and biology is interested in them all. Because of this wide range, biologists are grouped into specialised fields that study different aspects of life. These fields range from the study of molecular mechanisms in cells to the classification of organisms. In addition, biologists investigate how species change and interact with their environments. As such, biology is a dynamic and diverse subject. Biology also includes the study of the origins of life and the morphology, physiology, behaviour, and distribution of organisms. The scientific study of life on Earth is a fascinating field and we have seen estimates for the number of species at over 100 million with more being discovered and documented every year.

Why is Biology Interesting?

With the development of technology, scientists have gained more insight into how and why different living organisms exist. This knowledge can be used in medicine, conservation efforts, and more. Scientists spend their careers studying nature and trying to discover the answers to some of the most fundamental questions. What makes this subject so intriguing and exciting to them? The answer is simple: biologists study something that humans are not responsible for. In addition, they perform experiments to uncover the fine details behind the scenes and they conduct expeditions and explorations to rarely visited sites. Some of them even help to save the lives of people by preventing diseases. What is not to love about biology? Another reason biology is captivating is that it explains the natural world and how different living things interact. By understanding how organisms interact, we can learn about the history of humans and how we evolved to be what we are today. We’ll never be able to comprehend life without an appreciation for biology.
