What is Science?

Science is the study of natural phenomena, it is a methodical enterprise that builds knowledge by arranging and testing observations and predictions. The pursuit of knowledge in this manner is what distinguishes science from other forms of learning. As such, science is fundamental to human progress and development. It’s the process of gathering and evaluating knowledge about the world. The objective of science is to make the best explanations for observed phenomena. Though these explanations are not perfect, they can help people understand the world better. In other words, science is the best way we know to look at the universe and make sense of its near-limitless variety.

What makes Science interesting?

When people think about science, they probably picture scientists in white coats studying the behaviour of a rare type of minuscule bacteria. But science has far more applications than that. The work of scientists extends beyond the lab and into everyday life, and people of all ages learn about the world around them through actions that approximate scientific practices. Gradual and iterative learning is how we all started as babies, exploring the world and starting entirely from scratch. If that doesn’t impress you, remember that scientists also have to understand cool stuff like tornadoes and volcanic explosions! A host of other exciting phenomena are also explored and explained by science, including the origins of life on Earth, the magic of coral reef ecosystems and the distant exoplanets which surround other stars like our sun.

Why take a GCSE Science quiz?

Sometimes studying can get a little boring, or maybe you just don’t feel like you are learning! Everyone feels the same at some point and that’s why we created these science quizzes, to help out young students like you. We have made a variety of science quizzes including GCSE chemistry, GCSE biology, and GCSE physics. Some are easy and some are more difficult. You can find the perfect quiz to test your knowledge of any subject in any science course. It’s a great way to get a taste of how much you’ve learned in science and it’s also a fun way to learn about different theories and concepts. These questions are designed to help you remember important facts and formulas, but you might find that you are unsure of what certain answers mean? If you’re unsure about a specific subject, you can always take a look at our other resources or consider hiring a GCSE tutor.

Want a hint for our Science trivia quiz?

You might need to know that the Pacific Ocean is the world’s largest ocean and Mercury is the planet nearest to the sun. You might also need to know that an omnivore consumes both plants and animals. You could also find questions like: what is the world’s smallest animal? and What is the chemical symbol for gold?

So, go ahead and test your knowledge of science! You’ll be glad you did. Once you’ve mastered these, you’ll feel confident that you’re a savvy scientist.
